Château Attack

The Château Attack is the violent confrontation at Sir Leigh Teabing's estate, Château Villette, in which the albino monk Silas, acting on the Teacher's orders, infiltrates the house, knocks Robert Langdon unconscious, and holds Sophie Neveu and Teabing at gunpoint to seize the Priory keystone. The attack is repelled when Teabing, using his metal crutch, strikes Silas's cilice belt, causing the monk to collapse in agony; Sophie then kicks him under the jaw, subduing him. The event marks the moment the keystone is nearly lost, the true allegiance of Teabing's servant Rémy Legaludec is revealed, and the fugitives are forced to flee France for England.

Infiltration and Assault

Silas, having been freed from his bonds by Rémy Legaludec, circles the house and peers through the glass doors of the study, where Langdon, Sophie, and Teabing are discussing the keystone. He hears the word "keystone" through the glass and, finding the doors unlocked, slips inside and inches down the hallway, pulling his pistol from his pocket and turning off the safety. As Langdon examines the rosewood box and discovers the hidden engraving beneath the inlaid Rose, Silas strikes him from behind with a crushing blow to the head, knocking him to his knees and then unconscious. Sophie and Teabing, seated on the divan, are then confronted by the monk, who demands the keystone with his gun trained on them.

Confrontation and Subdual

Teabing, holding the keystone in his left hand and leaning on his crutch with his right, stands to face Silas. When the monk steps forward to take the stone, Teabing deliberately loses his balance, letting his crutch slide out from under him. As he falls to his right, he swings the metal crutch in a wide arc, making perfect contact with the spiked cilice belt strapped to Silas's thigh. The barbs are crushed into the monk's already raw flesh, causing him to buckle and crumple to his knees in agony. The pistol discharges harmlessly into the floorboards. Sophie then delivers a swift kick to Silas's jaw, knocking him out. The monk is subsequently bound and gagged with duct tape by Teabing and his manservant.

Consequences and Aftermath

The attack forces the group to flee Château Villette immediately, as the gunshot and struggle have alerted the police, who are already surrounding the estate. Langdon, Sophie, and Teabing escape in Teabing's Range Rover, taking the bound Silas with them as a hostage. The event reveals Rémy Legaludec's true role as the Teacher's inside agent, as he had freed Silas and orchestrated the assault. The attack also demonstrates Teabing's resourcefulness and his willingness to use his physical disability as a tactical advantage, as well as the extreme lengths to which the Teacher's agents will go to obtain the keystone.
